Introduction to The Gottman Method

Friday, December 7 -- 1 PM to 3 PM SOLD OUT

The Gottman Method, developed by John Gottman, PhD, author of The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work , is an empirically based method for couples therapy. It has shown unprecedented effectiveness in helping 75% of couples treated to significantly improve their relationships and maintain their gains for one year. The goal of the therapy is to help couples to function better in the following areas: problem solving and conflict resolution, expressing wants, planning joint activities, discussion of emotions, and communication about values, goals and a vision for the future. This class is designed for therapists who have minimal knowledge of The Gottman Method and would like to learn more.

Learning Objectives:

  1. You will understand the core Gottman Method model which will enable you to start making effective interventions with couples.
  2. You will be able to identify and correct the Four Horsemen, the primary predictors of divorce.
  3. You will learn at least one specific Gottman Method technique which you will be able to immediately use with couples to help them improve their relationships.
  4. You will learn about outcome research showing how couples using The Gottman Method have improved their relationships.
